Manufactured products are often required to have tolerance to salt-spray
exposure, particularly those that are used in the underside of a vehicle.
A typical requirement placed on such parts is 1000 hours of continuous
exposure to salt spray at 35°C. In the automotive industry, it is more
common now to stipulate cyclic corrosion tests which involves periods
of salt spray exposure, followed by air drying at an elevated temperature
followed by exposure to high humidity. Rubber Consultants, has recently
acquired a 450 litre cyclic corrosion cabinet with a pre-programmable
function. It has a temperature range from ambient to 55°C.
