N-nitrosamine Testing for Rubber Products
N-Nitrosamines are carcinogenic and mutagenic compounds. They are present in elastomers, natural rubber latex products and therefore in pharmaceutical applications that use elastomers.
They are formed from secondary amines which are generated by the decomposition of certain rubber accelerators which then react with nitrous oxides during mixing and curing. All nitrosamines samples are analysed using GC-NCD (Gas-Chromatography with Chemiluminescence detector) and our analytical measurement methods have proven themselves for a wide variety of samples. Rubber Consultants routinely analyse volatile and semi-volatile N-nitrosamines and work according to various regulations, as listed below.

Applications:
- Balloons and Toys (Toy Safety Standard EN71 part 12:2016)
- Elastomers and Bottle teats (FDA Procedure)
- Gloves (EN12868:1999)
- Condoms (ISO29941:2010)
