From Apprenticeship to Materials Scientist/Engineer

Posted

Chevron Mariano Monteiro has successfully completed his Level 3 Science Manufacturing Technician Apprenticeship at TARRC/Rubber Consultants.

Since joining in July 2024, Chevron has gained practical experience across manufacturing, engineering, and testing activities. This has included rubber processing using compression and transfer moulding, as well as the prototype manufacture of rubber–fabric bonded components for construction applications, including seismic protection systems.

Within the engineering department, Chevron supported bespoke testing projects, including the design and assembly of custom test rigs using T-slot Bed Plate systems and the operation of servo-hydraulic equipment. He also contributed to tyre testing in line with ECE regulations (R30, R54, R108 and R109).

Working across multiple departments has helped Chevron build a strong foundation in applying materials knowledge to real engineering challenges and develop his practical engineering understanding.

Chevron will now progress to a Level 6 degree in Materials Science with TARRC/Rubber Consultants in collaboration with TIRO, with the aim of qualifying as a Materials Scientist/Engineer.

Reflecting on his experience, Chevron said:
“An apprenticeship allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge to real engineering problems from the start. Working across manufacturing, testing and engineering has given me a much broader understanding of how materials behave in real applications, which is exactly what I was looking for”.

From everyone at TARRC/Rubber Consultants, we would like to congratulate Chevron on this achievement and wish him every success as he begins the next stage of his professional development. We look forward to supporting him throughout his Materials Science degree and seeing his continued growth as a future Materials Scientist/Engineer.
