The Malaysia Merdeka Carnival took place on 26 August 2023. The event was hosted by the High Commission of Malaysia to the UK, the carnival provides a remarkable opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage and inspire a deeper appreciation of its beauty and diversity.
Established nearly two decades ago, this annual celebration took on added significance in 2023 as it coincided with Malaysia's 66th Independence Day, which took place on August 31.
Visitors experienced classical dance performances, artful silat (an ancient form of martial art), and live bands. There were also traditional sporting activities such as Tarik Tali (Tug of War) and an array of programmes for children including colouring contests and mini sports competitions.
Adding to the excitement, lucky draw winners walked away with enticing prizes, ranging from hotel stays and round-trip airline tickets to Malaysia to electronic items and more.
